The project of the operational implementation in a laboratory LIMS is essential!

Software LIMS solutions available on the market today claim to offer a range of remarkable functions, which are often designed to give a response to the various needs of different types of laboratory tests.

If we assume that these features are not reduced only to securities by the disappointing content (sometimes happens), they are often severely under-used, or incorrectly used, or, conversely, are useless and redundant:

internationally market research, report a significant failure rate (50%), partial or total, the implementation of a new LIMS in a laboratory, mainly due to:

  • Overly complex systems that can not cope with the concrete, daily and specific needs of each laboratory, and then are accepted with difficulty by operators
  • On the contrary, too “skinny” systems and insufficient to provide real support to the laboratory
  • Poor definition of “user requirements”: means that the system is often not correctly configured, so in the end the work increases, not decreases as expected.
  • Choosing a completely “software system homemade” or realized by software house without specific experience: this LIMS quickly becomes outdated and very often difficult and expensive to upgrade; not to mention the validation required for Accredited Laboratories, in this case particularly expensive both initially and up to speed.
  • Time and resources reserved by insufficient Laboratory for training and start-up of the system.
  • Support Provider inadequate

Polisystem Informatica believes that the methods of implementation are crucial to a successful installation. For this it is not limited to offering its Standard Software solutions (C.O.T.S.), but proposes to laboratories a real “LIMS Project”, then:

  • revising the user requirement with the customer and refines them to reach a perfect agreement (the specification document becomes the LIMS model “tailored” to be installed);
  • install a software system after a preliminary analysis and the drafting of a specific document;
  • It suggests the necessary human resources and shall ascertain their availability;
  • agrees a realistic planning for the start of the system;
  • He realizes the “Installation Qualification”, an activity of documentation and installation tests carried out, in order to provide the right guarantees, a correct approach to future integrations, and a first support to a possible Software Validation activities;
  • planning, in agreement with the customer, continuous monitoring of the project;

It provides comprehensive support during implementation and later in the daily operation
