“LIMS I.P.” (Instruments Protocol) is a software designed to offer a single interface to the Laboratory for the acquisition and the possible revision of data from management software of Laboratory Instruments.
This solution drastically reduces the learning time of Analysts, and offer them a unified platform for the visualization of data from Instrument; a trained operator using LIMS-IP is formed for all current and future tools.

Links can be either “one-way” (from Instrument to LIMS) and “two-way” (from LIMS to Tool and vice versa), depending on the needs and the S.D.M. Software (Scientific Data Management) offered by the Instrument. You can achieve them through the Standard Module “LIMS-IP“, or through the creation of dedicated interfaces for specific Communication Protocols (frequently used in Clinical Analysis Laboratories).
The solution of the Standard Module, leads back to a single “Workbook-model” MS / Excel® data from the instruments, offering the ability to control them, rework them using formulas and reorganize them, via the function “Calculate Results” in a format recognized by LIMS in the operation of automatic loading, properly arranged (in particular, the LIMS “Analisi” has already been provided with the necessary functionality to achieve such loading (see below)).
In this way, the analyzed samples are managed with a considerable saving of time and resources by the laboratory, avoiding errors of transcription.
The proposed mechanism, allows easy set procedures that adapt to different data structures in output from different instruments.
These data are then filtered to select only the useful information and processed by formulas (also set by the user).
For example, you can enter the weight and volume of dilution, and taking advantage of the “round” function is achieved even data with adequate significant amount to the applied analytical technique , as required by the UNI EN ISO / IEC 17025/2005.
In laboratories operating in “regulated” regime, the calculation produced by the excel sheet, must of course be carefully checked and validated per the terms of the Regulations.
The solution adopted by LIMS-IP, compared to the wide variety of tools and related export formats on the market, is to shift the problem of “knowledge” of the format outside of the LIMS, bringing it to Excel: for each used format, LIMS-IP provides for the preparation of a specific Excel template (files with the extension “* .xlt”), which stores information about the format by using Excel functions, importing text files and macros.
The Excel sheet can also be used in the manner of “Worksheet” to manually add other analytical results not coming from the connected devices, in order to load them into the LIMS in a single solution (“Break Operator” mode).
- You can import not only the final results from the output files generated by laboratory instruments, but also the values of variables.
- If these variables coincide with those associated with the calculation for the detrmination of a Test Result, the LIMS automatically realizes the provided calculation without further intervention by the Operator.
- The same variables may also be used within the folder-Model Excel to apply logics of reworking of any kind freely set by the Laboratory.
